Diverse Lakeside Neighborhood
Those looking for a quiet community with easy access to downtown should check out the Leschi neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. Leschi is located east of downtown along Lake Washington, and commuters can easily get to the downtown using Interstate 90, which runs along the neighborhood’s south border. The Seattle Municipal Street Railway cable car used to run from this neighborhood to Pioneer Square, and certain streets still retain some of the tracks.
Leschi was named for Chief Leschi of the Nisqually Native American tribe and is a diverse neighborhood, both economically and ethnically, rather than a home for the rich only. This community offers a mix of homes, so no matter what your preference is, you are sure to find something you love. Along the lake you will find condominiums with water views. Throughout the side streets there are a mix of Tudors, ranches, craftsmen, bungalows, and modern-style homes. Since Leschi is on a hill, many homes on the more inland streets get a partial view of Lake Washington.
One of the most popular features of this neighborhood is its many parks. Leschi Lakeside Park is one of its largest, and has picnic tables, tennis courts, walking paths along the lake, and a playground. Other notable parks include Flo Ware, Powell Barnett, and Frink Park. All these provide residents with plenty of opportunities to get outdoors, and no matter where you live in this neighborhood, there is sure to be a park near you.
Families with children will have access to several neighborhood schools that are part of the Seattle Public School district, including Leschi Elementary School. There is a small commercial area with shops, restaurants, and cafes that is easily walkable from other parts of the neighborhood. For anyone looking for a diverse community with connections to the outdoors, Leschi is an excellent choice.
